Teacher of SEND - Clyst Vale Community College
- Exeter, Devon
- Full Time
- UPS

Clyst Vale is a thriving and vibrant 11 - 16 Community College situated five miles from Exeter. Visitors to Clyst Vale usually comment on the friendly, orderly atmosphere, the courtesy of our students and the purposefulness in lessons. We have clear expectations and systems, but far more important are the excellent working relationships we establish between staff and students, as well as staff and parents. We remain the only Secondary school in Devon to be accredited Gold Rights Respecting School status.
The Role
Are you a passionate and experienced teacher, looking to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable students with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)? Clyst Vale Community College is seeking to appoint an inspirational professional with a passion for SEND to work with students in a new provision. The successful candidate will be adaptable and flexible, able to work independently and well within a team, be student centred and relate well to vulnerable students. We are looking for an experienced class teacher to work with 15 Year 7 students who are joining us in a new Supported Learning Group (SLG) class from September 2026. These students will be following a highly differentiated, primary style curriculum, covering a broad range of subjects in Key Stage 3 and then working towards functional skills and life skills qualifications in Key Stage 4. This is a unique opportunity to work with students who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and needs in communication and interaction and cognitive and learning but are keen to attend school and access learning.
Responsibilities
• Providing the in-school teaching and interventions for students in the SLG.
• Planning and delivering a bespoke and differentiated curriculum for the SLG taking into context their EHCPs.
• Working collaboratively with mainstream school colleagues, families and external professionals.
• Delivering staff training on supporting students in the SLG.
• Effectively deploying teaching assistants within the SLG.
• Pastoral care for the students in the SLG, ensuring their emotional well-being and access to opportunities within the wider mainstream school.
We can offer:
• A unique opportunity to work within a Gold Rights Respecting School with a strong community ethos.
• Collaborative multi agency working environment including assistance with curriculum development from the Specialist Partnership Trust.
• A supportive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme.
• Free on-site parking.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful candidates. Online checks will be carried out for all shortlisted candidates. You can find our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy here. Please note, we do not offer Skilled Worker visa sponsorship to non-UK citizens.
