We are recruiting talented and passionate Teachers to join The Deaf Academy from Autumn Term 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a unique, specialist provision where education, care and inclusion sit at the heart of everything we do.
At The Deaf Academy, we are committed to enabling all our students to excel educationally, socially and emotionally. If you are looking for a rewarding teaching role where you can truly make a difference to young people’s lives, we would love to hear from you.
About The Deaf Academy
We provide specialist education and care for deaf children and young people aged 5–25 from across the UK. Many of our students have additional needs, and we deliver a broad, enriched and highly personalised curriculum to support each learner to reach their full potential.
Our bilingual learning environment, using British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken/written English, enables students to thrive and prepares them for happy, healthy and fulfilling futures.
The role
We are seeking energetic and reflective Teachers to deliver the Primary Curriculum to students aged 9–13. You will take responsibility for a group of learners (and, where appropriate, individuals), providing consistently high-quality teaching and contributing to raising standards of attainment, engagement and wellbeing across the Academy.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting students with complex needs in an inclusive, supportive and aspirational learning environment.
We are particularly keen to hear from:
- Teachers with experience of primary curriculum, Deaf/ SEND / BSL
- Qualified Teachers of the Deaf (TOD)
However, prior experience in deaf education is not essential, as we offer:
- Sponsorship to complete the Teacher of the Deaf qualification
- Funded BSL training up to Level 3
Key responsibilities
- Deliver consistently high-quality teaching that meets the needs of deaf learners and students with SEND
- Assess, plan, deliver and review learning in line with Academy protocols
- Be accountable for student progress, attainment and outcomes
- Promote positive behaviour, engagement and emotional wellbeing
- Create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
- Contribute to curriculum development and the wider life of the Academy
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and external professionals
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times
Teaching performance will be assessed against the Teachers’ Standards, as appropriate to the role.
What we’re looking for
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS / ECT)
- Experience of planning and delivering effective teaching
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues and families
- Experience supporting learners with complex needs and/or challenging behaviour
- Strong behaviour management and classroom practice
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality and inclusion
Desirable
- Experience of working with Deaf learners or students with SEND
- British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1–2, or willingness to work towards Level 3
- Qualification or experience in SEN or Deaf Education
- Experience across different age ranges or pathways
What we offer
We offer a highly competitive and supportive benefits package, including:
- Access to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme
- Sponsorship to achieve postgraduate qualifications, including Teacher of the Deaf
- Funded BSL qualifications up to Level 3
- Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
- Access to a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
- Free on-site parking and cycle to work scheme
- A welcoming, committed and highly skilled staff team
- The opportunity to work in a new, purpose-built campus, just minutes from the beach
