We are seeking to appoint a Finance Officer to join our Children’s Social Care Finance Team on a permanent basis.
This role plays a vital part in ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payments to carers, external providers and care‑experienced young people.
You will support a team of Finance Administrators responsible for handling high volumes of payments and completing essential checks to ensure all requests are appropriate, compliant with policy and consistently applied.
Key Responsibilities:
- Checking, amending and uploading payment runs for Fostering, Adoption and Kinship placements, Care Experienced payments, and payments to external providers via CareFirst
- Acting as the key point of contact for external placement providers, including the resolution of complex payment queries and disputes
- Authorising, within CareFirst, all entries relating to Children’s placement costs
- Providing training to all new Finance Administrators and offering daily support on escalated or complex issues
- Identifying and recovering overpayments to placement providers
- Acting as the main liaison with the Finding a Home service to ensure the timely resolution of placement and finance‑related queries
About You
You will have a sound understanding of accounting principles, strong analytical and IT skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. You will be an effective communicator, able to explain financial information clearly to nonfinancial colleagues, and work positively as part of a team.
You will also have the ability to support and supervise staff as required, contributing to effective team working, performance, and the delivery of service objectives.
An AAT qualification or equivalent experience is essential. Knowledge or experience of Children’s Social Care finance is desirable but not essential.
