Through our Step In Apprenticeship Programme we have an excellent opportunity. We are recruiting a Business Admin Apprentice within the Highways Intelligence Group, part of the Climate Change, Environment and Transport Directorate.
Starting in September 2026 the duration of the Apprenticeship contract will be 18 months.
You will be required to attend an Exeter College enrolment day on 29 September.
Apprentices will work towards a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship, including record and document production, and managing stakeholder relationships. This will be supported by a combination of training and practical work experience.
We offer a highly competitive starting salary of £25,185 per annum, a starting holiday entitlement of 25 days, flexible working arrangements and training.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Help deliver the annual highways training plan for over 300 staff, including reviewing data to understand needs and working with training providers and colleagues
- Act as the main contact for training and system-related questions
- Use the council’s finance system to raise orders and track payments
- Support projects that involve changes to software and systems in Highways
- Assist with the yearly health and safety review across the Climate Change, Environment and Transport teams
- Use Office 365 tools (Outlook, Teams) daily to work with colleagues and attend meetings
- Manage a shared mailbox and respond to emails from both staff and external contacts
- Organise meetings, take notes, and follow up on actions
- Collect and enter data to support PowerBI reports
- Help manage the Highways vehicle fleet, including MOT and service reminders
- Monitor and review processes and procedures
- Use problem-solving and creative thinking to improve services
- Understand Highways processes and support the team’s needs

- Of suitable academic ability i.e., minimum qualifications of grade C (4) GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
