Are you a motivated and customer-focused individual with a positive, can-do attitude?

We are looking for an Assistant Transport Coordination Officer (ATCO) to join the Patient Transport Advice Service (PTAS) at Devon County Council (DCC). PTAS works in partnership with NHS Devon to screen patient eligibility and ensure those eligible patients can access appropriate and safe transport to attend healthcare appointments.
What you'll be doing
As an ATCO, you will play a key role in assessing eligibility for NHS-funded non-emergency patient transport. You will speak frequently with patients, carers, healthcare professionals and DCC colleagues to gather information and determine the most appropriate transport arrangements.
Where patients are not eligible for NHS-funded transport, you will provide advice and information on alternative travel options, helping individuals make their own travel plans.
Why Join PTAS?
Working within the Patient Transport Advice Service you will provide support to some of the most vulnerable members of our communities. Every day, you will help people overcome barriers to accessing healthcare, ensuring they can attend appointments safely.
What we're looking for
You will need to have experience working in a busy environment, managing competing priorities and adapting to frequently changing demands.
You will need to be organised, resilient and able to work accurately under pressure, working with your colleagues to achieve the needs of the service.
Essential skills and experience include:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- A professional and confident telephone manner.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
- Good IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint and the ability to learn transport management software.
- The ability to assess information and make informed decisions.
- Experience of working collaboratively as part of a team.
- The ability to adapt to new IT systems and processes quickly.
You will use a variety of systems, including call management software and specialist transport systems, so being adaptable and able to learn multiple systems is essential.
Duties will also include tendering and issuing contracts, processing invoices and resolving queries from patients, providers or healthcare organisations.

This post will be required to work a 5 day week Mon-Fri, 9.30-17.30, we are not able to offer this post with compressed hours or alternative working hours, due to the current needs of the service.
