Required for September 2019.

Imagine what’s possible…

At Newton Abbot College, IT is taught to all Key Stages.  However, we are aware that the courses we currently deliver could be considered traditional ‘IT’ courses rather than ‘computing’ or ‘computer science’.  We are looking to increase the size of our IT and Computing team through this appointment and also expand the knowledge, skills and experience of the team so that we can broaden the types of qualification offered at Key Stages 4 and 5.

At Key Stage 3 students are taught an engaging curriculum which is regularly updated.  There is a specific focus on computer programming with students using Microbits to learn Python, along with using Scratch and Kodu to develop problem-solving skills and understanding Algorithms.  The Department has developed an expertise in website design along with Animation and Graphics.  Students are also taught the principles of Game Design and use dedicated software to develop this expertise.

At Key Stage 4, the Department currently teaches the OCR Cambridge Nationals course.  From Sept 2019 the course will change to the Cambridge National Certificate in Information Technologies.  IT is offered as an option choice and is usually very popular.  It is our intention now to offer Computer Science as well from September 2019.

At Key Stage 5, the Department currently teaches the OCR Cambridge Technicals Introductory Diploma.  This course is 100% portfolio based.  Expectations are high with all students achieving a Distinction or Distinction*.

We are seeking an outstanding individual with drive, passion, enthusiasm and ambition to join our IT Department in the next phase of its development and beyond.  Your challenge will be to teach outstanding and interactive lessons, leading to high levels of student progress.

Are you:
- an inspirational, dedicated and forward-thinking classroom practitioner
- able to deliver excellent IT and Computing lessons up to and including A Level
- committed to raising standards
- creative, enthusiastic and committed to active learning?

You will:
- demonstrate excellent planning, communication and organisational skills
- be able to enthuse and motivate all students
- have incredibly high expectations
- be an excellent team player
- believe that all students are capable of success.

If you think you can make a difference to our students and relish the idea of joining our successful, supportive and highly motivated team in the delivery of outstanding education, then we want to hear from you!

We, at Newton Abbot College (“Good” OFSTED May 2018), have exceptional expectations of our students and staff and we welcome applicants who share our commitment to place student learning at the centre of everything we do.  Our induction programme is excellent and all staff are involved in an innovative CPD programme.

Sounds exciting?  Then get in touch.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and expect all staff to share this commitment.  If successful, you will undergo Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service and employment checks.

Details are available on the college website. Only applications submitted on the college form will be considered.
Please apply by noon on the closing date.
