About the role

We are seeking to employ a Senior Social Worker to work within the child and parent assessment team to undertake parenting assessments managed within fostering services.  This is a 12 months fixed term position.  Assessments are either undertaken within child and parent fostering arrangements, or in the community. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This post requires child care social workers to have experience of assessment and court work and the ability to travel around the county.  If you are interested in making a difference to the quality of children's lives and, developing your skills as a practitioner in this area of social work, we would like to hear from you.

About you

The post is designed to work within a child care social care setting where the Assessing Social Worker will be working to support and assess parenting capacity in relation to outcomes for young infants and children. The social worker will be an active participant in a ‘Team Approach’ to child and parent placements and community based parenting assessments, designed to inform Children’s Social Care Teams or the Family Courts.  Collaborative and innovative in your approach, you will be passionately committed to making a positive difference to children, young people and their families in Devon. You will be an experienced qualified social worker (CQSW, DipSW, BA Hons, MA or equivalent) and fully registered to practise with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). Your recent, relevant experience as a Children’s or Fostering Social Worker will mean you are up-to-date with current research, policy and practice development issues which are impacting across children’s social care.

In return for your skills, experience and commitment, you will get all the support you need from your manager, your team and wider professional networks.  We aim to enable you to be the best Assessing Social Worker you can be by providing individual and team supervision to support reflective practice, and effective locally-based administrative support to free your time for direct work with children, young people, and foster carers.  Equally, we are committed to your professional development and, as part of this, expect all staff to complete post-qualification training as well as other forms of continuous professional development. We are keen to retain our most talented staff so will be encouraging you to get the most from your career, whilst helping you to achieve a healthy work-life balance - all in a beautiful part of the country.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
