We are looking for flexible, experienced social workers to join colleagues in shaping and developing this exciting initiative whilst working within an established and supportive environment.  Joining the team, working full or part time, you will have the opportunity to use your current skills and to develop others in new environments you wouldn’t normally experience without moving to another role.

There will be the chance to work within a variety of settings, with adults of working age and older adults, all of whom may need support because of physical or learning disabilities, mental health or dementia, in multidisciplinary teams alongside a strong voluntary sector. All periods of work with teams are for a fixed amount of time within an agreed area ie North, South or East Devon, and also involve the need at times to move quickly to respond to more urgent situations wherever they might be.  In addition, as a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in areas such as Best Interest Assessor and Placement Supervisor roles.

About the Senior Social Worker Role

As a Senior Social Worker you will be responsible for producing outcomes-focused purposeful care plans for a range of people with complex needs within the context of managing risk, as well as providing professional advice, mentoring and support to your peers, non-qualified social care staff, as well as student social workers and ASYEs.

You will carry out safeguarding enquiries where adults are at risk of abuse or neglect and with good assessment skills, undertake Mental Capacity Assessments and make best interest decisions to ensure that people are living as independently as possible. Employing a strengths-based approach, you will be creative in your thinking and employ a person-centred approach to your work. Good time management and organisational skills will support you to manage your work/life balance in this varying role.

About you

An experienced and qualified Social Worker (CQSW, DipSW, BA Hons, MA or equivalent) who is registered to practice with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Having completed the Assessed First Year in (post-qualifying) Social Work practice (if appropriate) and able to demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development. With a sound working knowledge of social care legislation and of the issues currently impacting on social care delivery, you will be up-to-date with policy and practice development.

The roles require travelling significant distances, sometimes in urgent situations and without prior notice, in a rural environment where public transport may not be available. Our posts all carry an essential car user role and you will need to hold a current full driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

We offer 21 days’ annual leave (plus 2 statutory days over the Christmas Period and Bank Holidays), rising incrementally to 29 days after 20 years’ service.
