About you
We are now offering the opportunity for a Barrister, Solicitor or Legal Executive (FCILEx) to join the Council as a Litigation Lawyer in the Legal Services Team reporting to the Team Lead Housing and Litigation. This post presents a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a motivated lawyer to bring their ability and enthusiasm to the Legal Services Team.
Ideally you will be experienced in a range of contentious areas of law including civil, commercial and criminal litigation. The post will include, for example, applications for possession, contract disputes, injunction and prosecutions in the criminal courts including planning, Environmental Health and Licensing prosecutions. You will have excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage your own caseload. Ideally you will have experience in working in local government.

You will handle a varied caseload, working within a collaborative and supportive team. You will also support and mentor junior members of the team as appropriate. We will give you the opportunity to apply and develop your skills in the context of a high profile authority. We are particularly dedicated to the professional development of our legal team and career progression.
About the team
Legal Services provides legal advice and assistance to officers and members on Council business. We are here to assist the Council in achieving its aims and objectives in a legal and compliant manner.
Exeter City Council offers a flexible working scheme, generous annual leave and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme together with an Additional Voluntary Contribution scheme.
This is a full time post but we will consider a 4 day working week if desired for exceptional candidates.
