Lead Teaching Assistant - Cornerstone Academy Trust
- Multiple Locations
- Multiple Terms
- £24,500 FTE depending on age and experience (actual salary £20,000 per annum)

We are looking to appoint a Lead Teaching Assistant who thrives on working in a busy and dynamic teaching environment to be based at one of our Exeter Schools. Not only will you need to have a passion and commitment to wanting our young children to develop a life-long love of learning by being a positive, nurturing, and supportive role model, you will need to be willing to help organise and support other Teaching Assistants across the Trust.
As a Lead Teaching Assistant, you will be involved in organising and leading staff to ensure that curriculum opportunities are coordinated and implemented effectively to enable the smooth operation of a school day. You will report to the Deputy Head of School and work closely with them on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, you will oversee many timetables for staff including duty timetables for playtime activities where you will need to ensure that these are meeting the needs of the children and help to oversee the family dining service where older children serve young children each lunch time. You will need to have excellent organisational and people skills where you can help coordinate timetables, recognise where additional cover is needed and engage with staff to provide the relevant cover. You will act as a role model to other Teaching Assistants who you will lead through the organisation of staff meetings and through our great appraisal process that is designed to empower staffing through a coaching model.
You will be based within a Key Stage 2 class where you will work alongside the class teachers to support children in all areas of the curriculum and to also assist in the preparation of the learning environment, liaising with staff, maintaining pupil records and carrying out a range of administrative tasks to support the teacher.
A key part of your job will be in helping to prepare pupils for the ever-changing, digital work of the 21st Century, and so you will need to be willing to embrace the ethos of delivering a knowledge rich, purposeful, and project-based curriculum, through the meaningful use of technology.
Our moto is ‘fortune favours the brave’ and we aim to inspire children to strive to achieve highly and reach their full potential. As a teaching assistant you will have the exciting role of supporting children in learning to read, leading PE and Games sessions, going on school trips and residentials and taking responsibility for the mentoring and tutoring of individual children. We provide a full programme of extra-curricular activities, outdoor learning programmes, sporting squads and teams, dedicated art and science rooms, a library service and 1:1 digital devices for every pupil.
We operate a holiday club which is open to children in our Nurseries through to Year 6 children from 8:00am to 5:00pm during the school holidays. Whilst this role is being advertised as Term Time only, there are opportunities to extend your hours and support with the running of the holiday club if so desired.
This role will require you to go on residential trips with the children as these experiences enrich the curriculum and develop the child in ways that are hard to achieve within a classroom.
This position is permanent, 40 weeks per annum (38 weeks term time, plus 1 week non pupil days and the remainder school holiday working). Term time the hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm each day. The full-time equivalent salary for this role is in the region of £24,500 depending on age and experience. However, the actual pro rata salary will commence in the region of £20,000 per annum which is the adjusted sum to reflect the hours worked per week and the weeks worked per year. It also includes a holiday entitlement allowance.
Should working in the holiday club be of interest, your pay would increase accordingly.
You will benefit from a generous pension scheme, a health scheme, a cycle to work scheme and subsidised meals in our staff café with food cooked and served by our own chefs. Successful candidates will be provided with state-of-the-art IT equipment to help them fulfil their duties and we support all staff with an investment in their professional development through training and a good performance management process, where a bonus is payable to those who achieve highly.
Visits to the schools are welcome by prior arrangement.
We look forward to receiving your application and hopefully meeting you as part of the recruitment process.
