Marland is a successful special school for students of all ages (KS1-4) with Social, Emotional and/or Mental Health (SEMH) Special Educational Needs (SEN). The school is located across three sites: Peters Marland, Barnstaple and Bideford, with plans to expand to a fourth site within the next 18 months.
This new post of HR Manager will be based at our residential school in Peters Marland, 6 miles from Torrington. The role is predominantly school term time plus an additional 5 days to cover any necessary ongoing administration during closure periods.
This is a great opportunity for a suitably qualified HR professional to join our friendly Marland team. You will work under the leadership of the Head of Finance and Business and will be responsible for providing a high-quality comprehensive HR service, advice and guidance to managers, governors and staff across the whole Marland organisation. You will take a lead role in managing the employee cycle, ensuring best practice and legal compliance, as well as overseeing and developing recruitment campaigns.
You will hold line management responsibility for the HR administration staff and will be responsible for motivating, mentoring and supporting the team. You will act as an investigator for any casework, attending and advising at hearings and appeals, whilst acting as the first point of contact for all stakeholders regarding GDPR / Data Protection.
Alongside the generous salary on offer, other benefits include ongoing training, professional development opportunities, wellbeing & health support and free lunch refreshments (during term time). Whilst this role will be based on site at the school, hybrid working opportunities may be considered.
You will need to be highly confident and competent with HR matters and able to work flexibly and efficiently. We are looking for a skilled communicator who can motivate, lead and manage colleagues in a friendly and supportive manner. Experience and/or knowledge of school pay and terms and conditions for teaching and support staff would be advantageous. There are no requirements to work with our students, however, an understanding of, and/or empathy with, children who have SEN / SEMH is required.
