Devon County Council are seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational person to lead and manage its Traffic Orders, Policy, and Programme Team. This team provides a high profile County wide service, and delivers traffic schemes, ranging from speed and parking management schemes, to maintenance of signs, lines and road studs, to an approximate value of £2m per annum. These include the design and implementation of all key traffic management interventions, processing all Traffic Regulation Orders for the Authority, maintenance of signing and lining, and taking a lead role on Policy Matters.  

You will possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable engaging with senior managers, elected representatives, and stakeholders. You will be skilled at managing a technical team and have a good understanding of traffic engineering principles and legislation. You will also commission works via consultants taking the role of intelligent client.

You will be competent at using computer based systems, have a good understanding of local government and democratic process, along with expertise in engineering and traffic management. You will be required to manage the team to deliver an annual programme of work on time and to budget.


This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
