Devon County Council’s Traffic Management Group is seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated applicants for Network Permit Technician posts (8 full time) to work within a team managing permit applications from works promoters to perform works on the highway. You will monitor compliance with network activity assisting in the coordination and approval of works occurring on Devon’s highways.

Excellent communication and IT skills are necessary as the function is mainly computer based and frequent liaison with utility company representatives and their contractors to process permit applications and ensure the network asset is protected.

Some familiarity with legislation related to highways and traffic management will be beneficial, particularly the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991. You will process permit for works applications of a generic nature checking the information provided, resolving any issues before granting an application.

A flexible approach is required within a wider team environment working together with Network Coordination Officers managing complex permit applications. You will need to develop specialist knowledge in related areas and will be allocated administrative tasks as required within the team. At times, you will be required to gather relevant information to assist in responding to customer complaints. Occasionally, you may be expected to travel to meetings.
