Devon County Council’s Court of Protection Team deal with people’s property and financial affairs where the person lacks the mental capacity to deal with their own affairs. In this we act under the direction of the Court of Protection and under the supervision of the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG).

The purpose of the post is to manage and lead Devon County Council’s Court of Protection Team, providing an effective and efficient service, ensuring that client’s best interests are met at all times. There is also a responsibility to act in accordance with court orders issued and to protect the client’s finances. Client finances comprises annual income of approximately £5m and assets totalling approximately £15m. 

In addition, this post must ensure adherence to standards set by the OPG and to ensure that all day to day operational aspects of the Court of Protection function are carried out on behalf of the County Treasurer.

This is a significant responsibility, ensuring in this way that we protect vulnerable the people of Devon from financial abuse and exploitation.

A thorough knowledge of Court of Protection processes is essential. You will also need strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial and legal information to people without financial/legal background. You will therefore need to demonstrate experience of working in a financial environment.
